The 701th Institute of China Aerospace Science & Technology Corporation(CASC), also named Beijing Institute of Aerodynamics(BIA in brief), is founded in 1956 and is the first ever large-scale aerodynamic research and experimental base in the People’s Republic of China in answering for the development of aerospace industry in China.
BIA has 17 sets of professional aerodynamic ground test facilities including subsonic, transonic, supersonic, hypersonic wind tunnels, electric arc heaters and arc tunnels that are advanced in technology and in complete configuration with one another; Besides, she is strengthened with complete set of power system, electricity supply system at decades of megawatt level, measurement and control systems, calculation center, model workshop, balance workshop and precision optical components manufacture workshop.

·Theoretical research, numerical computation and simulation tests on aerodynamics and aerothermodynamics of vehicles;
 ·Fundamental research on theoretical, experimental and computational aerodynamics;
 ·Development of all kinds of wind tunnels;
 ·Fluid engineering development, such as high-speed vehicle, ship engineering and wind engineering;
 ·Development of measurement and control equipment, transducers and balances; 
 ·Electromechanical devices and optical instruments, research of production process automatic control, pressure vessel detection;
 ·Installation of large scale equipment;
 ·Graduate education, etc..
    In more than 40 years, BIA has taken part in almost all the flight vehicles research and development work in China, has provided large amount of effective aerodynamic theoretical research achievements and experimental data for the design and model selection of China’s aeronautical and astronautical flight vehicles, and has fulfilled abundant accomplishments in wind tunnel design and construction, industrial aerodynamics and civil products development by utilizing relevant professional technologies. By now BIA has witnessed 231 awards at ministerial level or higher, whereof 4 are national invention awards, 4 are national science and technology progress awards, and 9 are first-grade ministerial achievement awards; Also BIA has been awarded more than 20 national patents. BIA has devoted important contributions to China’s aeronautical and astronautical mission and national economy construction.
